I wonder if I read the original edition if I would find more of what I was looking for. I think the issue with this book is that despite it’s recent-ish update there are a lot of stats from it is still too outdated. In the face of this, a natural tendency is to retreat into our socially constructed existence–a thin slice of reality that we can more readily comprehend because we are the architects of that reality.
It asks us to take a hard look at our lives to sijplicity where we can make choices that will lead to a more balanced and compassionate society. Life changes of this dimension seldom are made without deep soul-searching. It talked about the vopuntary misconceptions of simplicity, such as that it requires taking a vow of poverty or denial of beauty.
